Lighting?

What lighting should i use if i set up a reef. Halide Floresent or what.

Around 26 inches I whant to keep lightneeding corals and some notlight needing and a few fish

What kind of corals? Different corals require different lighting requirements?

Do you know if the corals you are interested in are LPS (brain corals, candy canes, Blastos, etc.), Soft Corals (zoanthids, mushrooms, leathers, xenia, etc), or SPS (acropora, montipora, etc)? Are you interested in keeping any clams?

probially mostly soft corals maybe some of each i whant a tank with lighting for all of them

Go with a metal halide, that will cover everything.

Tank depth, your ability to cool it, and types of corals are the deciding factors.
If you only want soft corals, and by that I mean leathers, colt like, zoo like, I.E. corals without a solid formed skeleton you can keep a very large percentage of them under a couple pc lights, or a couple vho lights.
If you want LPS and softies, use more pc lights, or more vho lights, or use 175 watt mh in a tank under 24" tall.
If you want SPS go with 250watt MH under 24" and 400watt over 24" tall.
