Would this pump be quiet enough to use to replace my Mag18 that's very noisy? It'd be used on an over the back closed loop system I have running. Any other suggestions in the $150.00 price range? I also found a Velocity T4 in the same price range. I'm needing at least 1000-1200 gph after about 5' of head. Anyone know of any good deals on used pumps can chime in as well!!! lol.

The T4 will be absolutely silent, but they tend to add a small amount of heat to your system. I used a T4 as a return pump for about a year without using a chiller. I just used a clip-on fan that ran at low speed all the time. With the fan I had no extra heat problems.
I've used that Little Giant pump also for many years and they do make a small amount of noise, but not bad.
Most of the pumps that have a built in fan make some noise.

Well, I imagine that my Mag18 is adding quite a bit of heat as well. I've recently added a sump/fuge that I built out of a 29 gallon tank. That alone has cooled my tank about 4 or 5 degrees. I wouldn't be hard at all to place a clip on fan in the stand blowing across the surface of the sump. This mag 18 is just extremely noisy in the application I'm using it as.

Be sure to watch the humidity in the room with a fan cooled tank. Open a window or door if possible. I made that mistake and molded out some antiques. Of course, was cooling a 180 with a 60 gallon sump, and had a 72 plus a huge RO reservoir all in the same closed up space.

Mike are you planning on selling your Mag18? I'm possibly looking for a pump to pump stored water from the basement.

The clip-on fan I used, I had blowing directly on the wet end of the pump.

I'm sure that once more people see this thread that there will be alot of people that say don't use the Velocity/Poseidon pumps because they have "heard" they add heat. But I'm a big fan of them.
I was sucessfull cooling the pump with a clip-on fan, while using 3x250watt mh and 4x160 watt vho.
Right now I am using 3 of the Poseidon pumps on my 240, but I am using a chiller, that only comes on during the day after the lights have been on a hour or so.

Yes, I'm planning on selling it. I had one person here in town interested but haven't heard back from her so was planning on listing it on Ebay. Need to sell it to get the money for a different pump...lol. You've been here and heard it. Although I think a lot of the noise has to do with the way I have it plumbed...lol. Also keep in mind that it does create some heat. I noticed a temp rise of a couple degrees when I added it, although I'm sure having it throttled back causes it to heat up more than normal too.

Well, I've heard nothing but good about the Velocity pumps. Just wish I could get one with a lil' more flow. I mentioned 1000-1200 gph but it'd sure be nice to get closer to 1500-1800 gph of flow. Then I could probably get rid of all my powerheads as well...lol. But I'd be happy getting 1000-1200.
