Any one know where to get live food besides brine?
I have a Niger Trigger & Banded Moray than enjoy live food.

Have you tried your LFS? They usually will have various types of food and know where to find it if they don't have what you are looking for.

Anything in particular you are looking for? FW ghost shrimp can usually be found at Walmart, Aquarium Paradise in Tacoma or sometimes Petsmart. Most LFS have feeder fish of some sort. An amazing array of live foods can be bought online.

I'd tend to stay more with the ghost shrimp or SW based foods if you can. Feeding too many live FW feeders can result in health problems and I've seen several eels die prematurely.

Mr M I finally got ahold of my friend in regards to those shrimp. They wont have them in until mid february. the got pacific white shrimp that are alive and will live and reproduce in our saltwater tanks or refugiums, they come in sizes from really tiny to goos chunk size. I dont have the prices with my (thier at home) so I will post later.

Thanks for the info Mike, I will be looking forward to February for a good feast. It sound as if there are not to many live SW food out there.

I recived an order of live shrimp today. Boy did my trigger have fun. The only draw back was they are hard to see (clear body) the size was good 3/4 inch average. They also sent afew extra.

If you ever need anymore ghost shrimp I now we can get them at Saltwater City, I'm not sure on the price but I can look into that for you. We wouldn't always stock them because this isn't much of a demanding food :).

I will be there on friday and on Sunday just come in or call I should have an answer for you.. How many would you be wanting and would it be every week or every other etc..?

Anyone know where live brine can be found? I checked 4-5 LFS and was told there has not been any for several months.

I need to find some to save the life of a Tang:D and the patience of a fellow reefer:D

Thanks, Chris

Tangs would definately prefer that you put some nori in your tank on a clip.

For those who would like to grow their own brine (read inexepensively) here's a google...
Brine Shrimp Hatcheries

However, it is important to remember than brine is like candy. You can 'survive' on candy but that is about all brine provides on it's own. For the parents out there, do you make your kids eat proteins, carbohydrates, and fats to have a balanced diet or do you let them survive on 100% Twinkies??? A Twinkie has carbs, fat, and a little protein but it is not balanced properly at all.

Neither is Brine Shrimp. While they are NOT balanced, you can enrich them by feeding them rotifers which have been enriched with greenwater. However, these are issues beyond this topic of conversation.
