My wife is from the Philippines and I've made 7-8 trips there in the past 5 years. I always visit the wonderful beach resorts there and often see guys with a small boat free diving for live rock. I always wondered what they were doing with it. Snorkeling in the PI is one of my favorite things to do while visiting there. I'm sure the rock would be as good as from anywhere else. I know my comment has no facts or advice but thought i would comment anyway. Good luck with the rock i would love to see pictures if you get some.

I'm currently in the PI now and wanted to get some but wasn't sure how it would do in a tank. I also think it would be fine. If you wouldn't mind send me a pm of where you enjoy snorkeling/diving. Does anybody else have any feedback on the rock? Thanks

Just make sure you cleared this with customs... Im from Manila... and just got back in Seattle from a month vacation. Customs are very critical with liquid... any sort of liquid, even if its processed, canned or bottled. If you are thinking of bringing live rock back here, then you have two issues... one with water, since you need that wet to keep everything alive (most of the time wrapped with wet newspaper or clean paper). And another issue is with the inhabitants, since you are bringing in live rock. They will be considered "live" thus needs to be quarantined, examinied for banned pests, organism and what not.

I suggest that you just bring in dry base rock and just seed it here with live rock. its cheaper, weighs lighter and less hassle to customs.

just my 2 cents.
