I am a new member. I have had my 100-gallon saltwater reef tank set-up and running now for 4 months.

I have a LARGE bristleworm in one of the live rocks. ( I have 110 pounds of liverock)

I have tried to put some small krill inside a small amount of pantyhose ( after boiling the pantyhose to remove chemicals ), hoping to get the bristleworm
to get "caught-up" in the pantyhose, and then pull him out and dispose of him.

This has not worked.

Any suggestions?? He only comes out at night, when the lights go off. He does not come out fully from the rock, and stays partially in his little hole in the live rock.

If you can take the piece of live rock out, pour club soda in his hole. They hate it. LOL Or Take out that rock and smash or saw it open and dispose of him that way. HTH STeve

Here is an article that may help you determine the type of worm: A Large Worm Turns....

This article has a couple of ideas to try and get it out: Phylum Annelida - Polychaetes, "The Bristleworms". One option listed in the article is the inverted soda bottle. Cut the top half of the bottle off and invert it on the bottom half (poke some holes in the bottom), so the "spout" is pointing into the bottle. Place the bait inside the bottom half. The hopes is that the worm will crawl in and not be able to get out. If this doesn't work, your best bet may be to take the rock out, as Steve indicated above. How long do you think it is?

I don't worry about bristleworms of any size unless they are those of the Fire variety. I consider them part of the cleanup crew. I know a few people who have tried those bristleworm traps with good success if you've decided it's gotta go.

I don't like club soda with my bristle worms..I prefer them on the(live) rocks....errrrr sorry.

I have one that is getting quite big too, but it has never caused any problem I know of.
