After refilling, my 225gal is reading 330ppm CA (dang instant ocean).

Fixing this shortfall with Kent turbo calcium will cost me a fortune.

Does anyone know somewhere in the greater seattle area (eastside ideally) where I can buy some calcium chloride?

I'd prefer to stick with a brand mentioned in Randy Holmes-Farley's latest article: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-02/rhf/index.php

That would include rebranded versions of Dow Flake, Dow Mini-Pellets, Prestone Driveway Heat, and Peladow Calcium Chloride.

Any pointers greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Dave Dunn

Willy, thanks but the only dealer in that table is in Spokane. That's over the mountains from here, about 5hrs drive I think.

Found Some! dri-Z-air

Ok, the home depot in Redmond has a product called dri-Z-air. It's on an endcap by the plumbing dept. You are supposed to leave it laying around to absorb humidity (like that's gonna work...)

Anyway, according to the MSDS found on http://www.drizair.com this is repackaged peladow. $0.98 for 13oz. My 14oz thing of turbo calcium from LFS was $19.99.

So... Seattle is too warm for driveway ice, too cold for big pools, and just humid enough for dri-Z-air. ;)

I'm also on the Eastside--looking for the CA part of the 2-part DIY additive---have you had any problems with the Dri-Z-air product?

Still dosing with D-I-Y additive or have you switch back to a commerical product?

FYI: I just recently ordered a 50lb bag of dowflake from http://www.mainstreetseedandsupply.com/saltproducts.htm

The product is only $13.99 for 50lbs. Shipping was about $40 for UPS ground, making a grand total of about $55. Probably not as good a price as if HD carried it, but compared to the retail products it's still a nobrainer. I believe the 50lb bag I ordered will last me quite a while....

There is also a company in Kent that either stocks it or can order it, however they are wholesale only, so you have to have a business license to order. They carry or can get Dowflake, Magflake, and also Mississippi Lime (for kalkwasser) IIRC, but I haven't actually ordered anything thru them (no business license). That company is Univar (253-872-5000).

hth,

Dave,

Go to your local Auto-Parts store... and ask for the Prestone Driveway Heat. I did this MID SUMMER... and after being looked at like I was a crazy man (okay... so perhaps they wern't THAT far off), the guy went into the back, since they don't keep seasonal items like that out on display, and brought me out a container. If I remember correctly, it was like $9.50... and I would guess this is more than enough suppliment for my 180, for at least a year... since I only use it to bring up my water-change to desireable levels.
