My LTA just evacuated his long time home and budded up next to my fav. Green Star Polyp. Is the going to be a problem? Also what do you think might have caused him to decide to move? :) Any advice is much appreciated.

Its tough to say what caused the LTA to wander..obviously it felt it could do better somewhere else. How long have you had it? I dont think you will have serious issues with your favorite star polyps, but agina tough to say...LTA's have a weak sting compared to other anemones...mine rarely bothered other things in the tank, but I never let him get close to any corals I really cared alot about just to be on the safe side. I would watch and see..if your star polyps start looking bad, you should move them.

LTA and Star

Ok, thanks for the information. I really appreciate it alot. Im fairly new to the hobby. Ive had fresh since I was little but now I love the salt. I dont understand what most people are even talking about on here with all the fancy lingo. My tank however has been just about perfect from the start without dealing with any of that stuff knock on wood. I just do the basic water tests and they have all been good. I have had the LTA since the tank finished its cycle in September of last year. It has grown enourmous. I noticed that the star polyp only partially came out this morning as the LTA is heavily shading one side. How long can the star stay in without damage. I think I should just move the LTA but the tank has grown so much since he found a home I hardly know where he can go. Is there a way to convince them where they need to be or is it out of my control and I have to move stuff away from whereever he decides upon.

Like I said though you already gave good info and I thank you. My locat pet store doesnt seem to know much at all.

There are ways to try and encourage anemones to move to other locations, but honestly, unless its ABSOLUTELY necessary, I'd avoid doing it. They put stress on the anemone and dont always work. If it decides to stay where its at, you're better off moving the star polyps as opposed to moving the anemone.

here is a link to a couple of articles on anemones
