Anyone know anything about mangroves. Have plat in sump under tank and light is up as high as it will go ( tips burning) Can you top them ? or has anyone tryed.

Yes they can be topped. I top mine and they do fine. Just make sure to leave at least one set of leaves.

I don't recommend cooking the cut-off tops in butter and garlic. Just taste funny to me.

OK I did it cut the top off and it seem's to be doing well. Been a few days and were I cut it it has dark seal over it. Just wait and see. Hope it grows out not up. Placed the top I cut off in sump also hope it grows. Will see.

so far I have not seen any outward growth, but these plants are sloooow...

Mangroves like to grow up. If you put a lid over them when they hit it they will twist and make a lot of the cool shapes mangroves in the wild are known for. As far as trimming them, should be no prob and as Johnathan said, leave the bottom most leaves at the min. (other wise the mangrove will most likely go dormant and take forever to grow again) The cuttings have a very good chance of taking off on their own ( I have had the most luck when they are at least 3" or more) Good luck!

Hi all, here are a few pics of my mangrove. Planing on getting more if this works. I only have one about 2 1/2' tall. Pics are the top cut off and one of the top floating in sump ( more than likely it will die ). As far as it doing any thing in sump not sure, have other stuff in there as well. Sure it helps but I think I need more of them. There getting hard to find. Plus I think there cool looking. Thanks all for the advice

looks nice and healthy. I screwed up when I built my fuge and don't have enough room for them to grow very tall. I need to make a change!
