I just upgraded the stock flow that came with my bc14 (i think it pumped 137gph) to the maxijet 1200. Is this too strong of an output for such a small tank? Or will the added flow be good for my softies? At what point does there become "too" much flow?

I use a Rio 6HF in my BC-14 which is rated at 350 gph along with a small koralia nano with no issues. Modded a Rio 1700 (642gph) and a koralia 1 into my new BC-29.

if that was the return pump from the internal filter, i would put the old pump back and think about adding some sort of wide flow, low watt powerhead like tunze, vortec or koralia for flow in the main display.
how much is too much???
i have 1200gph(tunze 6045) in my 20g zoa/lps tank and i would say my corals are happy with the flow...not too much.
for a 14g, I would think a tunze 6025(700gph) might even be enough, and you could mod it if you wanted to increase the flow. or maybe try a pair of the new koralia nano's that do 400gph each.

in my 29 I have a mj 1200 modded and a k3 with a 1262 enhiem return I have alot of everything and everything but my sps will have to deal with the flow in there. only flow that is bad flow is strong direct flow. a modded mj1200 will blow the skin off a coral found out the hard way with the crappy suction cups.
