i was just looking in my sump..i never realized that my retun pump (mag 12) has metal screws all over the face plate..has anyone ever had rust problems from this...should i remove it during my next WC and silicone the tops of the screws??????

I was thinking the same thing with my mag12 I think the screws are safe but the silicone would'nt hurt..

Yea some say they rust, if you have to unscrew it to clean it every time & then silicone It can get to be a pain, I thought they started using stainless screws but maybe not.

they may be stainless....i am not sure..i have never taken mine apart, nor do i plan to anytime soon, so it shouldn't be a problem...i may just dip it in a muratic acid/ water mix and clean it when necessary

I've never had a problem with mine rusting. I would imagine the designer of a saltwater pump would have the foresight to use a material at least somewhat resistant to corrosion.

They are stainless now anyway and should be ok. I work in the marine industry and deal with a lot of stainless products. Cast stainless is the worst for rusting. Polished stainless is the best. FYI
