Micro bubble trouble...sigh

Ok kids I think I am overpowering my CPR Bak Pak with the MJ 1200 mesh mod. I have the Bak Pak on my sump and the outlet on the skimmer goes into a filter sock. Do I need to throttle the pump down to a MJ 900 or even a 600 with the mod? or is there something I can put on the skimmer outlet?

Additionally my skimmer cup fills in half a day, probably a sign that the CPR cant handle the mod....

Would love some advice

Cpr sells a bubble trap for the BacPac.

I dont think theres anything wrong with 1/2 cup a day, I think that's pretty good, especially for a cpr.

I think you misunderstood...the whole cup fills in half a day...not half a cup a day.

Have you considered a sump? Why not put your skimmer in the sump with some macroalgae, etc and not have to worry about microbubbles? They are easy to build and if done correctly you can use an external overflow and never have to worry about breaking siphon.

What color of skimmate and how thin? As in beer color, dark yellow, green, brown, dark brown. If other than thin beer color, it is a good sign. Many are even happy with thin yellow. As for bubbles back into the tank, they are not that big a problem. Look at a reef in the wild.

Skim is a good dark green and it is in my sump. I switched out the MJ1200 with a MJ 900 mesh modded and micro bubbles are going away. I will eventually have to replace the CPR BakPak, with something better, most likely Tunze DOC 91000 or an Octopus. Space is a challenge and the Tunze has a great footprint.

Dark green skimmate filling fast is not a problem, other than you have a HIGH nutrient load. Let it do it's job, it is doing it very well!

You could drill a small hole for an air line tube to drain it into a gallon bottle. Pretty simple DIY solution.
