Moving LS when switching tanks.

I am going to be upgrading from a 55 to a 90 when I move in 3 months. How do I go about moving the LS into the new tank? Or do I? I have the option to set up the new tank first and seed, but i would like to get as much of my original sand in the new one as possible without completely destroying the microfauna, etc. Note: Current sand bed is less then 2".
