Hello all

I have a question on mixing scooters. Synchiropus ocellatus.

I have a 55 gall , with live rock and 2 scooters, looks like male and female, male pufs fins and they get along good. He chases her from time to time but just shortly.

in tank are 1- bannerfish 1- blue damsel 1 -coral banded shrimp 1- pistol shrimp . also some snails and hermits. The scooters eat frozen brine, and most anything so i am lucky. Is there a chance they might breed ?

Also i have a 30 gall reef tank, a good amount of live rock and well estsablished. I bought a scooter for the 30 , he was shy for 3 days and buried himself in sand alot, then i added another scooter to the 30 , after that , the shy one is never out and stays all day under sand, he moves locations at times. The new scooter chases the shy 1 whenever he sees him, shy 1 a little smaller. Any ideas /

I was thinking i might have 2 females in the 33 gall. ? Would females not get along ? Also , if i added the shy female to the 55 with the scooter couple would another female fit in with them ?

Sorry for long post, cant find any info on this.

any ideas would be appreciated

WELCOME TO REEF FRONTIERS!

A male Scooter Blenny has brighter colors and a larger dorsal fin.

Living on Brine Shrimp and what the fishes may find in your substrate means they will like slowly die of malnutrition. They are surviving rather than thriving. Under these circumstances, breeding would be very unlikely.

One Scooter in a 30 is the maximum fish in the minimum space I'd recommend. Two should be in a 75 in my opinion. They can be kept in larger aquariums as one male with 3 to 4 females.

Having two in a 30 will mean, in addition to malnutrition, there is considerable space stress. There is no telling how they will react to this set of circumstances but not getting along would be the most likely outcome when faced with a lack of resources.

You should, from the above, be able to tell the male from a female. You may want to search the Web to find photos of each gender. :)

Good luck! ;)
