So, those little white strings that mushroom polyps exude whenever they are touched. What exactly is that? Are the polyps actually being ruptured or injured when you see those, or is it a defense mechanism, like with cucumbers?
hmm i'm not to sure about what they are, but i believe that means the mushroom is stressed and sometimes it's telling you..... dood i'm about to split ..... now for better explanation you're gonna have to wait for someone or Anthony
Mesenterial filaments. They can come out if the mushroom anemone is majorly stressed or they can come out if another species of coral is placed too close. They literally send them out to digest whatever coral they don't like being close to kill it.
