Any one play an instrument?
I have been learning how to play and make flutes for about a year now.
I play and make the shakuhachi.
It is a bamboo flute. To make them you burn the holes instead of drilling. This keeps the bamboo from splintering. I find it very relaxing to make more then playing.
Here is one that Dr. Chris (Rhodes) bought for me as a gift for helping him with his aquarium:
This is a master shakuhachi that I can use to make other. The tuning is done digitally. It is not traditional end blown but western side blown.
I favor making them more then playing. Though I am getting better, it takes years and years to master. At least the wife is not complaining anymore so I think I am getting the hang of it.
Here is a video of two of my favorite players:
YouTube - David Zasloff plays the Japanese Shakuhachi Flute
David is awesome!
Erik the flute maker has become a friend of mine and who made the one Dr. Chris bought for me:
YouTube - Oriental Flute
I have been invited to visit him and learn some of his techniques. Hopefully I will be able to next year if the economy picks up.
Here is another person I have been learning from by listening to him, Avi Adir:
YouTube - Shakuhachi Flute - Avi Adir - Live Concert
Well, that's it. Thought this would interest those that enjoy this type of music and get a thread going in the fountain
God bless, Frank.
