Any one play an instrument?
I have been learning how to play and make flutes for about a year now.
I play and make the shakuhachi.
It is a bamboo flute. To make them you burn the holes instead of drilling. This keeps the bamboo from splintering. I find it very relaxing to make more then playing.
Here is one that Dr. Chris (Rhodes) bought for me as a gift for helping him with his aquarium:

This is a master shakuhachi that I can use to make other. The tuning is done digitally. It is not traditional end blown but western side blown.
I favor making them more then playing. Though I am getting better, it takes years and years to master. At least the wife is not complaining anymore so I think I am getting the hang of it.
Here is a video of two of my favorite players:

David is awesome!
Erik the flute maker has become a friend of mine and who made the one Dr. Chris bought for me:

I have been invited to visit him and learn some of his techniques. Hopefully I will be able to next year if the economy picks up.
Here is another person I have been learning from by listening to him, Avi Adir:

Well, that's it. Thought this would interest those that enjoy this type of music and get a thread going in the fountain :)
God bless, Frank.

Many moons ago, I played several brass instruments, throughout high school and college. Trombone was my primary. While in college, and afterwards, for a few years, I played in a couple jazz/swing bands. Won many awards and contests, as well as scholarships. Every few months, I think fondly of those years, and consider getting back into it. Then, I decide to think about it again, in a few months...lol.

Frankie, the "making" of your own flutes is very cool! Wanna see some pics!

Nice Sid! You should get back into it.
Erik the flute maker makes some pretty cool wind instruments. You may want to check out some of his stuff.
Here is one I made for Chris. He is a professional bagpipe player also.

I torched this one for a darker look. the finish is bees wax with natural hemp bindings and that is waxed also.

I inscribed his name onto it in chinese also.
I am working on a traditional end blown one right now and will post some pictures in a few months when it is done.
I am starting to get into the root ends for the design and natural patterns.
