Hey I had to use some Joes Juice on a coupple aiptasia in my sump today.
I started to notice a fair number of other things growing there also. They look like a root of some sort. They are whitish in color. Colleen said maybe a sponge? I don't have a camera right now so no pics. Any ideas?
TIA, Scott

Well I think I stumbled onto the organism in my sump.

It's a Foraminiferan.....Just what I thought... Yea right. Anyway in my reading it says they are detritus eaters . I guess that explains why they are in the sump. It also says they are hard to keep alive in the aquarium. Maybe short life span until food is gone? I had noticed a little detritus buildup in the sump but had been vaccuming. Anyone noticed these before?
Thanks Scott

little white things

That picture doesn't look like it to me as I dont see the siphon thing. There are all these things in his sump and he's right they have an appearance of roots..... they are all smaller than a dime in size, and they look like a root like if you pulled up a weed, and in the center is a siphon thingy. THey are pure white like a white sponge, just root looking with a siphon. We dont have a working camera good enough to get a picture... anyone have an idea??

Hmm....I may have had something similar, and haven't thought too much about it. I'll see if I have a pic of it on my camera tomorrow.

Scott,
Don't mean to change the subject of your discussion but I was wondering how "Joe's Juice" worked for you? I have some aiptasia in my tank that I need to destroy...any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,
Deb

Deb,
I have used joes juice from time to time. It has worked very effictively for me. I have never had a large infestation of aiptasia. Maybe 6 or so that I have noticed in a 6month period. All have been less than a pencil eraser size.
Hope that helps, Scott

Scott,
Thanks for the quick reply...Right now I only have one in my tank...I just discovered what it is and realized it was bad news...It is about the size of a quarter right now...I will try the Joe's Juice and hope that works...thanks again,
Deb

Scott - does it resemble this picture at all? I had these growing in the dark spaces of my live rock, in the overflow and some in the sump....all of which have gone for the most part. I don't have an ID on it. Let me know if yours looks similar.

Hey I believe thats it Nikki. They have the tube that looks like it. You said yours seemed to die back? I havn't noticed any in the display. Just in the sump and a coupple in the bottom of the skimmer.
Maybe some one else has seen them before.
Thanks, Scott

Sponge..I got lbs and lbs of them. As an experiment you can put a spot light over them for a weeks and they will turn black.
