I just had oral surgey and my girlfriend is looking over my tank and my tank blew a seam and its leaking everywhere.

I have her emptying it into two 36 gaLLON totes but does anyone know anyone in Pullman that has some fishtank knowledge.

Anyone with large containers, spare heaters, etc. Anything.

not in pullman, but once in brute containers, need to get circulation and heat to them while you correct the seam problem..is the seam replacable OR is a new tank purchase in order??

(in other words, how bad is the situation?)

I dont know for sure. Leaking along the bottom front seam. The tank is only two years old.

SHe is geeting a 70 gallon rubbermaid container to put the rock, corals in.

forunately the fish are in a seperate hopsital tank right nowl.

We will put the heater and powerhead in there and put the light on for corals.

I am in Olympia for another week and cannot leave due to recovery and bleeding. bad timing for sure.

wow..you have one helluva of a girlfriend for her to do this for you....make sure you buy her some flowers, jewelry, etc.. :D :D

was this a new tank OR a used tank you bought???

well, after everything is taken out and tank is dried will be the only way to access the situation..might be as easy as reapplying silicion or might be as bad as crack tank which IMO means getting a new tank..not worth the trouble to fix a crack tank unless you want a repeat of current events.

:)

Thanks for the help Kirk.

Well it was Brand New when we bought it. Funny thing is though I have a 140 gallon upgrade I am currently getting set up. Just wont be ready for another month or so.

So we bought a 70 gallon rubbermaid container. In there I will have her put the rock, corals, cleaner shrimp and pistol shrimp. I will also have the heater and a koralia 4 for water flow. I will have the lights on the normal cycle.

Is this setup okay for a week or so until I recover? What about skimmer, I have a hang on skimmer but dont think it will fit on the rubbermaid.

sure be ok for a week or so...no skimmer needed, can use a water change in lieu of a skimmer...but if for a week, i wouldnt think a wc is needed..but would test ammonia, nitrates, nitrites levels daily.

Thanks guys. Kinda hard to deal with this 300 miles away and high as a kite!!!!

I think everything will be okay in the tub until I can get back there. I am just going to kill the sand (as its pretty nasty anyways). I put the cheato from the hang on refugium into the stock tank also.

Any other advice or suggestions. I know the tank is going to stink pretty bad unless she cleans it but that might be too much to ask.

Thanks for the help. This is what is so great about this forum.

So what is the best way to get oxygen into the tank.

Is one Koralia 4 pointed at the surface enough oxygen exchange for corals and two shrimp? Or should I put in an air stone?

your ok then as long as you have water break. air stone wouldent be bad IMO. and to clean, hot water and white vinnigar

As long as you can keep the water circulating and warm, everything will be just fine for a few days. The corals will even be fine, without light, for 3 days or so, if it comes down to it. If able to get them light, great! Since using a rubbermaid tote, make sure the heater doesn't come in contact with the plastic. There's the possibility that the heater could melt the plastic of the tote. Yes, a Koralia 4 will be plenty of circulation, temporarily. As you mentioned already, just make sure it's agitating the surface.

As Joanne said, if there's anything any of us in Spokane can do to help, let us know. In case of emergency, if you wanna give our numbers to her, go for it. I think you have mine already and my cell is always with me.

So everything is set up in the 75 gallon bucket and doing well. Corals are open and getting light. Shrimps and snails are alive.

I didnt transfer the sand, so when I get back, I will rinse it out and use the clean stuff to start the new tank.

A few questions:
I am planning on setting up my new 140 gallon tank but it will not be ready for a few more weeks. How long can everyone last in the rubbermaid container? There is no skimmer.

I have a pistol shrimp in the rubbermaid. Will he be okay for this long without sand?

Without a skimmer, I'd just do water changes a lil' more often. The Pistol Shrimp doesn't require sand to live, so it'll be fine. It'll find a home in a rock. The main concern I would have would be lighting and flow. As long as you're able to keep your corals properly lit, with good flow, they'll be just fine.
