i am noticing greenish round algae spots at the back wall inside my tank. i have a 12 gallon aquapod and it has like a plastic back wall that separates the main tank from the filter section where the green algae is growing. i am having a difficult time trying to get rid of it without scratching the plastic.. (i tried using a spoon).. any suggestions to somehow get rid of it without scratching the plastic? thanks btw i attached a photo of it as well.. maybe someone can tell me exactly what it is. thanks

Depends...Some people love it to grow on their backwall and everywhere and then you have some people who hate it all together. I had it growing like crazy on the bottom of my bb tank and it started it's way up the back wall. If it is growing on your backwall then chances are it will grow on your rocks as well. By scraping it off and letting the little pieces float around in your tank will cause it to spread to other places. Here's how mine eventually ended up before swapping tanks:)

Well...It usually means (or is a sign) of good water quality, but on that same note, some people don't like too much of it growing in their tanks because they use up stuf like calcium, mag etc which corals use so some people tend to keep it to a minimum when it comes to covering all surfaces:)

John, Kent makes the Pro Scraper for glass and acrylic. The short handle one is like 5 or 6 bucks and works well for scrapping off the coralline.

I like coraline on my rocks but not on the glass.
There is something that looks like Aiptasia on that picture, if it is aiptasia you may want to remove it before it takes over your tank.

I like coraline in the tank on the bottom, rocks and up the back. It also will out compete nuisance algaes for nutrient uptake and will starve them out.

good observation luey it looks like a majano or something.

ya i was wondering what that was. didnt get rid of it just in case it might turn into something nice lol

There are many ways to get ride of them, I have in the past burn them with a lighter, then just scrape the burned part with a screwdriver.

Looks like coraline starting to grow. If it is, it should turn pink or purple pretty soon:)

Or it could just be green coraline, right?

Definately...:) In some cases though coraline will start off green and eventually change color. I've had some nice shades of green coraline before that added some nice colors to the tank and then after time it was replaced with a purple and pink color:)

yeah hehe.
i have some green and some purple.
you can also try to scratch it with a tooth brush :D ... that's what i do :p.
