i thought these fish were peacefull.i have 1 in a 75 along with 2 chromis and a sailfin tang. when i try to add another neon or 2 the resident neon attacks them till they die. i have watched this happen, so i know the other fish are not involved.why do i see other tanks with many of these fish?

Speaking in generalities, the Neon Goby does not get along with other Neon Gobies. There are exceptions. However seeing a group in other tanks doesn't mean they are peaceful. You'd have to spend hours watching their behavior to come to the conclusion they are 'getting along.' There is also such a thing as there being so many that they are too busy to be picking on just one.
Some Goby personalities will allow others; also when there is a pair (mated) they will get along quite well.
