New Blue Stag at Barrier Reef Aqs.

Hey Folks-
Here are a couple of pics of the new super blue stag that we just brought into our stock.

We are pretty sure this is Acropora elseyi....an electric blue variety. As far as we can tell it is one of a kind when it comes to this color intensity.

I saw these frags yesterday. They are quite the eye catcher! It was tempting, very tempting.

I asked that question yesterday also. I know one is a 12k Reef Flux, the other is a 10K, not sure of brand name. Everything looked very good at Barrier Reef.
Thanks Cy and Tim for holding blue milli and turaki and wife loves the frag she picked out. Yeah, its hers. She put it in the corner of my tank and said that was her spot, lol.

As for our lighting, each side of the 240 gallon has two 400 watt bulbs. One coralvue 12k reeflux and one 10k reeflux. A total of four 400 watt bulbs. We love the results we get with the combination of 10 and 12k. All driven by PFO HQI ballasts. When it comes time to replace them we are thinking of trying one coralvue 20k just to see how the SPS react. The side of the tank that is dominated by SPS also has 2x110w VHO Actinic.

We are currently operating out of Tim's garage in Issaquah on the hill behind Home Depot and Fred Meyer. We are open by appointment and usually one or two times by set schedule which we post here at RF.

So after being told many different species names for this piece we finally got the Veron book out of storage and looked it up. This stag is Acropora loisetteae. Think Steve Tyree Limited Edition "Steve Elias Blue".

PS- The blue in this coral really pops and is developing even more now that it is under higher kelvin lighting. As you can see below the blue doesn't show as well under the 6500K halides. We do not photoshop our photos!!

Greetings all-
In chatting with Cy today, he mentioned the inquiries about this SPS. I can help.

This is the tank where the blue stag comes from. (The colony is circled in red).

It is a large colony that grew from a small (2") frag. The main colony was in the 240g tank for about three years when fragged. Lighting was three 6500k Iwasaki 400w mh bulbs roughly 14" above the water. When you look at this picture, bear in mind that the tank is 8’ long…. The green brain on the left is 14” in diameter.

A select few of you may recognize the tank, or its owner: Bob Moore. Bob has been one of the “old guard” in the hobby, usually hanging in the back during club meetings. This particular tank has been continuously running for roughly 12 years. Most of the rock you see is in fact coral that has “grown up”.

Thanks to Tim and Cy for helping to spread this specimen around to qualified reef-keepers. For those of you smart/lucky enough to get a piece, congratulations!

sharp eyes.....If memory serves he has been in there for 5-6 years. He and the copperband have been fed butterclams forever, so not really a clam friendly tank:shock:

Is the small 2" frag came from Paul Hamby at one time?

if the Paul Hamby's frag ,,,,wow!!! i got the the whole colony about 10-12" growing and keep on growing,,from 1-1/2"frag 2 yeares ago

I believe they are the same species, but different color strains. I have several colonies of each growing next to eachother under 400watt 10K's and they maintain different colors. That's my 2 cents.

same spieces,,, color? raised under 65k for years,,and under 10-20k for couple weeks?,,,i got one iwasaki 65k ,,maybe i 'm gonna try ,,see what 'll happen?
