We got two new corals this weekend, and they are SOO cool!! The first is a good sized Chili coral, and the second is a huge Dendro colony with 60(!!) :eek:polyps on it!!! So Excited!! The dendro is already polyping out during the day for feeding time, and the chili polyped out a little last night too!! :)
And I cannot make the darned pictures upload , Arrrggh! So pictures later, I promise!!:D

They are dendrophyllia! Yes, sun coral, tubastrea, I dunno. Apparently there's only a difference upon skeletal microscopal examination, or whatever. So, Yeah, there's abbout 45 polyps that are good sized, and along the edge a bunch of babies. I tried uploading photos 3x, so I'll have the hubby do it when he gets home! Oh and we got them at wild side in puyallup.

wow i just went there yesterday....:)you came early....lucky....:)maybe you can frag...make me 1st on the list...ill wait for pics...:p

I saw that colony a bit ago. I don't think they are dendros. They look more like Sun Coral. Either way still a great deal! Besides the people that work there are clueless to what they are selling! I've been there and heard some of the advice they were telling people. It cracks me up when they tell people salt water is just like fresh water care. Fill your tank up with water and use this AquaSafe product to nuetralize the water then add your salt and let cycle for a few days and you should be ready for fish:lol::lol::lol:.

i have a feeling that it is a sun coral..and hearing from sarang it is probably a sun coral...great deal though...i read online that they shouldnt be fragged...show us a pic:)sun corals are pretty

Yeah, we got them on Sunday, they had a good sale goin on! And no they don't know much about what they are doing, they told my husband that the coral wouldn't open any more than it already was, which of course was completely unpolyped out, and it started opening before we got it home, and it opened up that night, and the next day! So i'll get up pics tonight (i hope!! stupid uploader)!
And I'll need to look into fragging it, i think i read to do it similair to a toadstool though. And with 60 polyps to feed I'm a little concerned about adequate feedings vs dirty tank, so I'd def like to frag some off.

Alright heres a pic of what we got. We believe its a Tubastraea coccinea (species), aka "Sun coral", or "Cup coral"...they are in the family Dendrophylliidae, Genus Tubastraea, and one of about 8 species in that genus. So i think that is where these species get mixed up. They are in the same family as dendrophyllia, just in a different Genus. And there is about 42 different species in the genus dendrophyllia.

They are in a fairly shaded place about 2/3 of the way down in the tank, they seem pretty happy so far, they opened up during the day the first day we had them! Yay! I wasn't home yesterday to see what they did... But with 60 polyps they're kinda hard to feed!
