okay i just replaced one of my power compact bulbs, and rather than being white and that light blue color its white and a purple color. i was just wondering if this is normal? i bought a coralife 50/50 compact flourescent. any ideas or if its bad?

My coralife bulbs usually take a few days to stable out. When they first start up they blast for a few days then mellow down to where they seem to stay (perception lol) for about 6 months. Then I take them to the garage and save them because I am just nuts. I mean I will never put them back on the tank, why cant I throw them away. LOL Mine have seemed a little purple but not a lot for a few days. HTH Steve

okay, thanks. i dont blame you for saving the bulbs, you never know what might happen and you might need one! my boyfriend said he thinks that they're just different nm's. so, whatever i think the color is awesome.

I don't blame you for saving them. You could always use them on a fuge or something!!!
Maybe Mcgarnicle (sp?) might need a snack sometime!!
pulleygirl, they will probably burn in in a couple of days. When I had PC's I had the same thing happen. It wants to pull at your pocketbook a little, doesn't it?

You spelled it fine. LOL He has decided he loves cardboard now. LOL The goat is insane. He also likes to eat daffodils been wearing them out since they came up. My experimental quar. tank has only got a 2 x 65 watt bulb light on it. These are 96 watt pc. I guess I could scrounge up out of spare parts and make some kind of Kentucky rigged light fixture and use them for something. Maybe just get crazy stupid and use them to light the garage? Hmmmm.

I'm using an old NO fixture above my sink down in the basement. I get good coverage, and Willis can see his water bowl. :)

Are the pc's good for about 6 months? (mine are at 4 1/2 months) Do you phase them out or change them all at once?

thanks

E

When I had PC's, I had a 4x96w fixture. I would change 1 bulb per week, so it would take me a month to change out all the bulbs. I wasn't real good about changing them, but I would say that 9 months is the max. that they would last.
HTH

I have seen in a LFS a blue and purple dual spectrum acetinic I wonder if she's got a different spectrum of acetinic ? Just curious :)

Yeah plack, I have seen those too. Maybe that is what she got? On the bulbs, I am just like I said earlier nuts, I figure since I have bubble tip ameomne, and some sps under pc it is just a lot safer to change them out at 6 months. Cheaper than losing my corals. Probley wouldnt happen but I am paranoid. Soon I will be sporting 2 x 250 mh 14000k hamiltons. Then no more worries about light. LOL

the goat is finally gonna splurge huh? it's about time he did something besides eat cardboard :D :D .
Can't wait to see pics of those.

pc's have several different blues 420 then 460nm and 7100k blue? each of my tanks looks different. I think that the purple brings out florescence better
