Sweet looking set up, what are those 3 canisters for ?, can we get some info on how the sump works and what each chamber is for, thanks

Mike that is one sweet looking unit there bud.

Outstanding job getting it drawn out on the back of a napkin to a working product in less than 5 weeks.
Will there be an option for a fuge?
What size pumps will be used for the reactors?
And why the media chamber? If you have the reactors?
The built in sock holders are a nice touch.
Are there different color choices?
How many gals is the standard sump?
How soon before they are in stock?

I can go on ..............

A fuge option would definitely be key since I'm surely a big macro guy, but yea Peppie I did also notice the media chambers in addition to the 3 reactors. Redundancy perhaps??? I'm sure Mike will clarify and adjust accordingly

Excellent, High end features.
top off, dosing reservoirs, and refugiums can all be included in your sump with just a word,
at a price that can't be beat by competitor pro sump makers.
Sounds like a complete no-brainer to me.
Way to go OBD!!

You can tell some serious thought went into this unit. It is a great base for a custom sump to your liking or needs

HELLO

HELLO

HELLO

Anybody home up there???

LOL

opps sorry for the late reply I Matt and Jess must have snuck a couple of pictures out before I knew it. Let me me explain the unit a bit first and then answer some questions.

The_OBD_Pro-series_sump.jpg

A > Fresh Water Reservoir (10 gal.) for hook up with ATO unit. Area left on lid to plumb for ATO fittings.
B > Alk & Cal. Reservoir for hook up with auto doser pump. Area left on lid to plumb for ATO fittings.
C > Sock Chamber with two sock holders. Lid can be drilled for any size of your drain lines
D > Reactor Chamber. Can fit both the duel Carbon/GFO Reactors
E > Skimmer Chamber, currently showing the 10 inch skimmer but can be fitted with the 8 inch or 6 inch models.
F > Media Rack Chamber with two racks for your media bags.
G > Return Pump Chamber, lid can be drilled to accommodate the fittings of your return pump
H > OBD Duel Carbon/GFO Reactors
I > OBD Pellet Reactor, Comes with pump and is plumbed into skimmer
J > OBD 10 inch Skimmer, Chamber can be customized for 8 inch or 6 inch models

>All sumps now have a full lid system to help keep evaporation down in the stand, also with this we have section of the sump top (white) where we can drill it to accommodate your plumbing for your drain lines, return lines, dosing pumps, ATO units and so on. This is done so its all clean and easy to plumb.

>All baffles are now done from full height to add alot to the overall strength in construction, something to add years of service to the units.

Ok so as with anything we build the unit can be customized to almost any size (if needed alot smaller then we would change to another design) The unit can be sold as a stand alone unit to house your equipment if you already have a skimmer and/or reactors of your own.

There are three reactors Seedless, one is our dual carbon and gfo reactors, the gfo reactor comes with a pump that fits under the stand and fluidizes the GFO, from their it goes up and over into the Carbon reactors and passively defusses out the bottom of the reactor. The third reactor is a pellet reactor which also comes with its own pump that fits under the stand and the water comes from below, fluidizes the media and then exits via the top of the unit. In our setups we plumb the pellet reactor directly into our skimmer so that the bio-film created by bacterial action goes into the skimmer which then exports the nutrients locked up in the bio-film. We have made a few changes to these reactors to enhance them, one is we have made an all new stand which is very sturdy and houses the pump perfectly, the second is that we have gone from the previous pressure seal lid to a new and easy Twist lock lid for easy on and off operation. I will post a couple of pictures.

Yea I have been thinking about this design for a long time, so it was ready to happen for a while now. Let me go through your questions.

>On the refugium, yes we can modify it for the folks that want a fuge, really we can make it anyway the client wants. keeping features or trading their spaces for something each reefer desires.

>In testing a ton of pumps on the reactors we have come up with the following, for the pellet reactors the Cobalt 1200 (~300gph) fluidizes the pellets to the correct tumble rate so we have chosen that one and it comes included in the price of the unit. The GFO reactor uses a Cobalt 900 which fluidizes the GFO just enough to expose all the particles to the raw water without disturbing the media to much, the pump also comes with the reactor. The carbon reactor does not have a pump as it draws water from the GFO reactor.

>On the extra media chamber or tray on the way out of the sump , we are trying to make the sump system somewhat stand alone and to accommodate everyone. So lets say someone wants the sump but has their own skimmer already, or wants to sacrifice the reactor chamber for another feature or doesnt want the reactors or just doesnt have the money for the reactors right away. Well them the trays give them an option to use media types passively in bags on the trays?

> The sock holder are cut to fit 4 inch socks

>As per colors we have two choices, Clear and white or white and clear:eek:

>The sump is about 50 gallons??? of which about 10 gals are reserved in the ATO fresh water and ALK/Cal reservoirs.

>Well I made one to stick on our big show tank and it sold before making it to the front of the store, made another to replace it and it sold before I finished making it and since then 2 more, So I would say its safe to say they are up for sale, as per stock welll.....as fast as I can make them I guess? lol

Thanks for the info Mike.

It has answered some of the things that I was wondering about.
I am sure others welcome the info also.
Its great to hear that you cannot produce them fast enough to place one on the shelf.

Yea right now it seems to be pretty popular, for the money I cant see anything close on the market.

Mike

We had a customer who came in and wanted the sump but with out the ATO (they plumb it direct) but wanted a refugium instead. Take a peek at the drawing, I could use some input or maybe some better ideas??

Perhaps an option for 5 liter chambers for pre-mixed Alk/Calc/Mag. A demanding system uses as much as 8 liters of Alk each month.

Is this customer going to purchase this sump with the pictured reactors? If so, then place the 3 supplement containers where the media tower is located. This would allow more room for the fuge.

Just an idea

Geese Deb I would have to make the sump dedicated to alk and cal to make up for the demand you monsters have!!

Dave the media racks are actually baffles, so if I stuck it in their it would block to much water pass-through. I was thinking of perhaps stealing an inch hear and their and making the dosing box on the outsides of one of the ends??
