We just set up a 55 gallon coral reef tank 4/23/11. I (we) have been watching these rocks for 11 days now; I hope that this is a normal part of the process; we have been told that it is.
What we have so far:
Aqueon 55 filter, 2- Rio 600 top power heads, 2- 1100 Rio bottom power heads, 88lbs of live rock, a used CPR Bak Pak skimmer (which sits idle), and just regular aquarium hood lighting we will change soon. We are completely new to the hobby, and have been trying to take in as much info as I can but at times not sure where the research needs to start. Here are some pictures that I took tonight

Doug and Susan, welcome to Reef Frontiers!! Your pictures didn't show up. I believe that members have to have 5 posts, before being able to post photos. This is put in place, to cut down on spammers.

Yes, the "watching rocks" process is definitely normal...lol Take your time, be patient, as difficult as it is, it's one of the most important "tools" in our hobby.

Welcome to RF and the obsession :)

Watching the rocks is one of the funnest parts IMO. it's the short time you really see what goes on in the tank before you get corals in there and you start to forget about all the critters that you put in at the start with rock that do allot for the tank ;)

Don't be afraid to ask questions and be patient. it'll save you allot of time and $ in the long run to take it slow :)

Hope to see pics soon.

Yes this site is great resource full of friendly and helpful people. As far as the research start with the stickies, and ask lots of questions no matter if they seem dumb or not.

Welcome to RF, We are always excited to get new members here. You will not find a better group. We do NEED to see pics of a new tank. We are all addicted.LOL

Thanx for all the warm welcomes. I have started to enjoy the process of watching these rocks. Everyday I notice new growth (?). I have yet to figure out how to upload photos, i will keep trying..
