I've set up a tank using LR that is at least a couple of years old that came another reefer who had his tank running for over 3 years.

Set it up 10 days ago, have tested for Ammonia, Nitrites, and Nitrates and have gotten no readings on any of them. Rock was transferred directly from tank, into a container, and kept with powerhead and temp at about 78* for a little over a week before placement. It saw next to no time out of water.

Could it be that the rock was well established enough not to go through a cycle, or am I missing something?

:confused::confused:

As long as the rock spent a very minimal time out of the water, any cycle could be next to none.

Yes it is possible to set up a tank with no measurable cycle using well cured LR.

Put some drops of ammonia in, just enough to register on the test, then see how long it takes to get to 0.

Sounds good. I thought it was an easy answer but, the way my luck has been lately, I wasn't going to find out the hard way.

Thanks everyone !

my first tank had no cycle... Just treat it as if it did though... start slow and build your way up
