well i will remember this day as the most horrible day in my life  .
Today after coming home from the mall a saw Mr. Krabs right in front where my mushrooms are, on the sand, so i thought hmmm.. ok he's probably just fine, then just about now when i was feeding my anemone i decided to touch him ( he never tried hurting me the times i by mistake touched him) and he he .... HE WAS DEAD  :( !!!!
i only had him for about a year, but still i used to love watching him  he was my favorite   , how can my little baby be gone for ever, i just can't believe this #$%^  .
Anyways, i'll see you all in three days because i don't think i'll have the energy to even get up from bed :( .

Yes Gab, it could possably be a molt. How can you tell for sure Curt? I found my emerald today same deal. I think it is a mold, but not sure. Do they just climb out the back of the shell, or do all of the arms and legs split open too when they molt.

Gabriel,
I'm sorry if he passed but like Curt said it could just be a molt.
Check to see if the body is empty inside (no meat) crabs just slip out the back/bottom to molt. They leave an intact shell with all the claws and legs in most cases.
I find our 5" sally light foot shells every couple months in the tank at the store.

Yeah Gabbie just check to be sure. It will just of crawled out of the bottom part of its carapace. Sorry if it is really gone. I know how you feel anyway.

Awe... That’s so sad to hear.
I’m hoping that it was a molt as well. :(

Because they have an exoskeleton, a molt looks just like the original animal. The only difference is that there is very little mass to it.

Tom, I think Sharks explained it best IMO.

well boys my husband just checked to see if it wasn't a molt what i was crying about and ... it wasn't a molt  , i would not have been able to check, so he had to do it for me and yeah there was meat in there.
i was having hopes it was a molt too but no, it was just Mr. Krabs, me lovely crab
ohh Curt, he was an emerald crab i know it doesn't sound like a huge thing, i liked that crab alot .
ohh well i'm sure he's in a better place now.

Nope....I think it IS a big thing. Many of us develop attachments to them. I know that I certainly do.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

Gabby, I am so sorry to hear about Mr.Crab. It should not happen to someone so nice as you. I , as probably a lot of others, wish I could do something to help. My heart goes out to you.

Sorry to hear that Gabby. We just lost a cat tonight that we've had for years. It's horrible when these things happen.

Sorry to hear that Gabby

Sorry for the loss!I guess it was more than a crab to you.I remember some years back in the 80's my yellow tang was killed by a giant anemone I had in the tank.
It took some weeks to get over the loss.I bought another one later but never behave the same way(personality wise).
I hope you feel better.

Well really sorry Gab, I am still hoping for you that it was a molt. I found my crab yesterday too just like you describe. This morning I just checked on the tank and out of the rocks crawled the crab, it looked like the incredible hulk w/ arms 3 times the size of what they were a couple days ago. When I found the molt it just had a tiny slit at the back where it had crawled out. When I sorta tore it open it had lots of goo and other strange stuff inside it.
