Boomer and everyone,

i saw a new type of phosphate remover and was wondering what you thought about it.

http://www.championlighting.com/product.php?productid=14139&cat=738&page=1

how exactly does it work?

is it an ion exchange resin? if so what does it exchange?

how effective do you think it is?

what is the regenerater(is that a word?) made from?

http://www.championlighting.com/product.php?productid=14141&cat=738&page=1

general thoughts and anything else you want to add.

also what do you think of this http://www.championlighting.com/product.php?productid=22033&cat=738&page=1 in comparison to this http://www.twopartsolution.com/inde..._id=77&zenid=8f1b00e6aa0643bdd9509ff2eb87def8

Yes Chris, I know. Chris just opened up his company 2 months ago.

http://brightwellaquatics.com/

I do not know how well it will works but Chris in not an idiot and knows what he is doing. It appears to be exchanging Cl- and HCO3/CO3-- for PO4-. Think of it like a water softener, only taking out PO4 instead of Ca++ and Mg++, which use the Na from NaCl and Na2CO3.

Inorganic salts of carbonate and chloride

Many resins use bleach for the same reason the Cl. Chris hired a published chemist to do all this stuff for him.

Those last two on your link are about the same. But Warner has a new one out that out competes them all called PhoSar HC.

Bayoxide 33-P and other Bayoxide 33 are what most of the GFO's are in this hobby. There are what we call wet and dry forms.

Chris, as in Chris Brighwell, has also written these two books

I tried the WM for about 6 months but it just didnt seem to keep up with my input like Rowa did. I'm going to try the stuff from TPS after my new tank is up and running.

Don

I also tried the Phosar and was unimpressed. After 6 months I went back to phosban. Maybe this one will be better/less expensive/magical.

Did guys use the PhoSar HC ? This is different stuff than the older stuff he had. The ROWA and old WM are all Bayoxide. Everyone I know of that has used the WM PhoSar HC says it is unmatched

No it was the first stuff he came out with. I didnt realize he had another.

this is the HC http://www.championlighting.com/product.php?productid=22037&cat=738&page=2

its a little too rich for me. the stuff from 2part is at a good price especially if you get the big tub. i just wish i could find something thats not iron based that works good and isnt an arm and a leg. when ever i add new iron based stuff i get a growth spurt of algae from iron released at the beginning, plus im convinced (at least untill the tests are done from Barrys PM research) that iron triggers what ever causes pinched mantle, so i just want to get away from it if i can.

Interesting Ive never had a clam with PM or have I seen a algae bloom. I do use it a little differently than most. I add 2 tsp rowa to a micron bag every 5 days until the bag is about two thirds full. Then wait two weeks and start over.

im not saying iron causes PM but i think it triggers a Perkinsus to go into overdrive. so if you dont have the Perkinsus you wont get PM. i have a study on it (iron and perkinsus)if your intrested Don.

i run mine in an old Berlin xl skimmer body, finally found a use for that POS :D

Wow, $50 for 400 grams. How much do you use at a time for each 100gal of tank and how long does it last?

That is a lot even if it lasts 4x as long or works for 4x the volume of tank water.
