Don,
I'm new to this site and it seems like you could be the guy that I need to talk with. Do you have any plans for a diy skimmer big enough for a 220 gal tank. Also, I am currently building a refugium out of a 55 gal tank for my 220 gal. Any do's or don'ts I should be concerned about. I already have it set up so there is a 12" cube on one side that the overflow from the tank dumps into. I have sponge filter medium for mechanical filtering on top, followed by a trickle plate over bioballs. How much Miracle Mud does on need for a 55 gal. tank that only has about half of its foot print left? Any help would be appreciated.....by anyone Thanks, Ryan a.k.a Pondguy

Congrats Don. I appreciate clever people since it is an area that I lack. Keep it up and continue to push the hobby forward.

Really I know nothing about refugiums, other than the flow needs to be slow. I personally would just put baffels in your sump. I'm of the keep it simple mentality. I'd loose all the media and bioballs otherwise you'll have a N factory. Call the center area a refugium with a little LR and Sand no mud.
As far as skimmers goes you could just up size the ones that BigT and I have made.
I just like to build stuff and really am no expert.

don, could I get some infor on that skimmer you made. Also, i have been reading up on this miracle mud stuff, they say it is the cats meow. why would you not use it? Also, what is the reason for you to say that the bioballs are an N factory.
