has suddenly had a growth spurt and outgrown my 55 gal. tank. Should I look for a private buyer or trust my lfs? I think I already know the answer but need feedback.
Thanks in advance

i would look for a fellow reefer with a 6ft tank...if your lfs has a large display tank, you could try that, but i would look for someone on the forum that actually cares for their fish!

Yes, that was what I was thinking. Since I am in SoCal I might have to check out that OTHER PLACE. Bummer. I might just keep him/her.

Definately try to sell it to a fellow reefer. If you trade it in to the LFS, who knows what will happen to it. Someone that is new to the hobby and has a 20g tank may think it'll look cool, but probably end up killing it. Your odds are much better with a person that at least has some experience.

How big is it?

Tangs need lots of swim room, yellow tangs can really take off fast, so they will outgrow most shorter or smaller tanks.

As you have all probably noticed I am very concerned with the wellbeing of my Tang. I have a very mature tank but it is going to be too short very, very soon. I know I sound like a broken record but I learn so much from you all and perhaps someone else will learn too. I am going to look into trading my tang for a monti C. maybe. My hope is that someone else who loves yellow tangs would adopt him/her. The fish is only 3"inches in diam.

I probably wouldn't be in a hurry to find it a larger home that size but If it starts circling fast back & forth then it is important to find it a new home. It would be a judgment call on your part.
