I bought a tank today and its built weird. its a 180gallon acrylic. she got it used like 5 years ago. so not sure the age. But the weird part is is its built like a glass tank. instead ofnice rounded seemless ages with the tops and bottome glued on like normal it's built out of 6 panels top bottom left right and front back. has anyone heard of this and is it secure to use? i filled it up in the bed of my truck today and it held water. but i want to get some opinions

how thick is the acrylic. sounds like how most acrylic tanks are made unless it has rounded corners. should be fine. that is how my 160 gallon and 360 gallon tanks are made. how about posting a picture of it.

idk id pm mojo or someone with tank building experience like that jayson guy with CFI. If there isnt any silicone in between the seems, ur tank will eventually just pop...

Acrylic tanks are not built using silicone.
Sounds OK. pics would help. Not sure I would have leaked tested it in the back of a truck. Was it level, and fully supported??

yeah it was fully suported had it sitting on a piece of plywood. its a peninsula style tank. so only part not supported was 3 inches on the end were the bullk heads came thru. and i didnt fill it completly. just a little over 3/4.
i will take some pics today. its just every acrylic tank i have seen is made out one solid piece minus the top and bottom.

Some acrylic tanks are made withe 1 piece bent for the front and sides, welded to the back, bottom, and eruo-braced at the top. Cant say I have ever seen one, all four sides bent from one piece.

the tank is normal i would support the stand with a sheet of wood at least 1/2in over the metal stand then a piece of thin styrofoam insulation for self leveling take hole saw for the bulk heads just don't leave it floppy on the end need that full support on all edges

Seems a little on the thin side for that large of a tank but it looks like it's supported good. How much does it bow with it full of water?

I posted once, but looks like it got lost in the recovery of the website.
That tank is exactly like my 180. Same thickness of acrylic and same seams all around.

ok cool thanks guys. im not sure how to measure the bow but i put my sheet rock square on the end and run the long end down the the tank and at the L of the square there is about a 1/2" gap.
I have it filled with water right now out in my garage. I have the stand 1/2" peice of ply wood then a half in ch sheet of the bluw high density foam board.
I though i had a leak because i filled it a little to full and water got into the overflow area. I dont have any bulkheads or the holes cut into the styrofoam yet so the water got in between the tank and foam and ran clear to the other end and started leaking out. i was mad. glad it wasnt a leak
