Alright...I'll break this down as chronologically as possible.

AKU'S ACCOUNT OF FAILURE....

D-Day- Introduced Melanarus wrasse which appeared healthy to combat red planaria outbreak.

D+1- Wrasse is Lethargic and just lies around the bottom. Appears to have bleached colors and "Ich" spots except they blow off.

D +2 More lethargic on Wrasse, literally just lies on bottom.

D+3 Wrasse is dead

D+ 8 Pink Anthias has popeye develop over night. Pink colors on both anthias appears blotchy

D+9-10 Anthias popeye appears to be recovering

D +12 Healthy pink anthias found dead on bottom of tank with lock jaw

D +13 Popeye anthias found dead

D+14 Long nose hawkfish loses weight almost over night and is found dead by evening.

No new additions to tank. Remaining Bangaii Cardinal and mated clowns apper healthy and active. Clam open and happy.

D+30 Copperband butterfly, new wrasse and mandarin added to tank

D+ 32 Copperband eats clam....grr

D+35 Copperband develops "bruises" with raised scales and possible sponge looking growth seen under actinics. Lose of ability to stay upright.

D+36 today "CB dead"

My plan is to go fallow today for the next 8 weeks,,,,

As noted on you other thread:
With the rate the symptoms has spread and to so many different species that became lethargic then died, have you looked into possibility of it being Marine Velvet? Or perhaps tank poisoning? Electricity leak?

No no inverts affected. I will read into marine velvrt when I grt to an internet connection

Have you figured this out? Any more casualties? Really curious what the problem was/is.

Hey L,

While I haven't figured it out completely there have been no more casualties and everything is doing great. I did what only the most logical person would do. I bought another 75 gal tank, caught all the fish, put them in the other tank with some pvc pipe, a heater and powerhead and the did a erthmyicin, prazipro, and copper treatment.

In the mean time I did a very low dosage of EM into the DT itself and prazipro. No negative effects on the corals and there was "slight" kalk mishap that resulted in a LONG LONG night of water changes. So cliff notes:

Bacterial, fluke or parasite???? I don't know

Buy new 75 gal tank

place all fish in 75 gal tank

dose EM, Prazi, and copper

dose DT with em and prazi

accidentally dose pure milk kalk water into tank via ATO....

Do many water changes

replace fish 2-3 weeks later

Profit????

That sucks Seth. Sorry to hear about your loss. Did you medicate copper with the other meds? My understanding is that copper should neve be used in combination with any other med. I too lost all my livestock from an Ich outbreak and not having a proper QT process. By the time I got my hospital tank setup and started medicating it was too late.

You can use some meds with copper. For instance maracyn II. I've used it with copper treatments a couple times now. You can not do hyposanlinty treatment with copper. I have a few fish in qt right now for ick. They have been in copper treatment for 7 weeks and maracyn II for a week during that. I just added carbon last weekend and did a water change to start getting the copper out. No casualties. I thought I was too late with my blue hippo tang. He was solid white when I finnally got the copper levels up in the QT. He's looking good now. We'll see if itdoesnt come back again. Crossing my fingers.

I have found using CryptoPro to be very effective. Best use is in a 30g max QT so the 25% changes are managable. The upside is many: treats all stages not just swimming stage of parasite, maintain salinity (no hypo) for sensitive delicate fish like Anthias, treat fish that don't handle copper tx like angels and manderines and box fish/scaleless fishes, easier to keep medicated level since copper is fickle, effective on the resistant parasite, protozoa and hexamita strain that kills in 24hrs! Product is carried by Barrier Reef and the product goes along way 71 doses/treats 715 gallons! More can be found at National Fish Pharmaceuticals.

Sounds more like bacterial infection (pop-eye condition) in resulting from flukes and or copper sensitivity. The dusting on the wrasse...they frequently dive under the sand when stressed or prepairing for sleep--melanarius make mucas pajamas so sometimes sand sticks to them. But, that doesn't rule out parasites congesting the gills.

when I had fish dying left and right last Xmas, I thought it was MV, but determined it was flukes from the newest fish I introduced which did NOT go thru a PraziPro treatment..now, every fish that enters my tank goes thru a 5-7 day PraziPro treatment period. I also QT every fish 4-6 wks. I am now up to 9 fish and everything is going well <knock on wood>.
