Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knows any information about if dumping old saltwater from water changes will harm sewer lagoons or septic tanks. I have 3 reef tanks and started thinking about how much water I have dumped down the drain the last few years.

Is there any better ideas on how or were to dump old water.

Thanks,
scott

I thought about that as well. I have a septic tank and it made no sense for me to dump it down the drain, then have to pay for all the extra water to be pumped out. I just dump the water changes on my grass. I haven't seen any ill affects.

Yeah that is what i do I just dump it in a area where i don't care for the grass to grow. I tell you what though salt water is great to kill grass lol. I had nice lush green grass once, where i dumped my salt water.

i dump down the driveway... paved, and on a hill... it runs off about 200 ft, to the same stone spot down the drive way.

not good for your septic tho.... i pour a little bit every once and a while, but it will damage your bacteria in your holding tank.

The water in a spetic tank actually perc's into the ground. Most all of what you have pumped out is "sludge" :)

Extended dumping of salt into the lawn WILL eventually kill it.
