My green open brain has white (with a lack of better words) noodly substance coming from the base of the flesh. I do not know what it is but it is worrying me. I have had this brain since I started my tank and it has grown so much. Any information would be great.

I tried to take a picture. I know the quality sucks. But it is the white substance right at the fleshy base.

nobody out there has any idea what this is. Somebody out there has to have seen this before. Any help to guide would be appreciated.

Can't really tell from the blurry picture what I'm looking at. Is it tissue recession? Is the tissue actually coming off from the septa? Or is the edge of the live tissue down lower, below where the white stuff is coming from?

Just trying to get some more info and maybe it'll ring a bell with someone. I've got a trachyphillia and have never had any issues like you're describing.

The word "noodly" makes me think its mesentary filaments extruding from its side. My brain did this a couple years ago when it was STNing at its base. If you dont intervene it will likely die. I found that it wasnt getting enough flow around the base due to sitting on the sand bed causing cyano and detritious to build up just under its edge causing irritation. Try moving it to a higher flow location. Also. I use 2" dia. PVC pedestals for all of my sand corals. I cut them about 1/4"-1/2" higher than the sand and put the coral on them to allow flow under the edges. I havent had any problems since doing this.

Also, my brain was one of my very first corals from three years ago. It really hasnt grown at all and has for the most part, been quite healthy etc. I wouldn't worry too much about its growth.

Well trido I think that you are right. I looked a little closer and it has a tube snail growing on its skeletal base. So should I try to remove this varmint or should I just move it to another location like you said. I will also do the pvc thing from now on because it makes sense.

I personally wouldnt kill the snail. Then again, I tend to only kill coral predators. I let the peppermints take care of aptaisias and then, IMO everything else is good.
