Call me weird... Becca does... but sometime I like to get the flashlight and lay on the floor in front of the sump and watch all the bugs in the macros. Today I was doing just this and marveling how big the pods have gotten and how big the population has grown. Then I saw something big move toward the back up in the macros. Thinking Holy %$#@ that's a big pod!!! I looked closer only to see it's another Banggai Cardinal fish, maybe 1" tall including all it's fins. Then I saw another smaller one and then another one in the return pump section. These guys had to make the trip into the sump at a very young age. They had to get over the coast to coast overflow and into the drain that has strainers over it that are usually quite plugged. Then they had to survive the water slide into the skimmer section, dodge the skimmer pump input and get through the 3 baffle bubble trap. Once in the jungle of the fuge I'm sure food is plentiful and there are no predators but it still amazes me that they are there and seem to be thriving. They are obviously from two different hatches because of their size. I would post more pics like the last ones we did with them in front of the Elegance coral but they are considerably harder to see in the fuge. I think we are just going to leave them there until they are mature enough to move them to another tank without getting eaten. Has anyone ever had an experience like this? It's just really surprising to us to see this sort of survival.
