So I recently set up a new tank and I have a overflow box that leads to a sump. When the water flows over the overflow box and down a drilled hole into my plumbing down to the sump it makes a loud gushing noise of water and air as the water leads down to the sump. Does anyone know of a way to quiet this down a little bit or anything I can place in the overflow box to dampen the noise?

Is your OFB a hang on style or internal to the tank? Hang on OFB's will do that, but if it is an internal kind that is built into the tank, there are a few ways to combat this. Search Herbie drain, and durso stand pipe. One of these will fix you up, J

It is a internal overflow. I have two holes drilled in it, one is for a return line and the other is open plumbing that leads to the sump. the overflow box is approx 5in wide and 7in long and 22in high
