Greg a friend of mine on LARC got me thinking about some over sized frag disks for acans to grow out on and be easy to cut frags from. He said that he had done a search for some and found none. So here is a picture of the mold I plan to use, disks will be 3 1/2" in diameter and 1/4" thick, 36 at a time. Now all I have to do is play with the mixture of agrocrete.

The next modification to the mold is I want to do is make a frag ring. The disk will have a hole in the center large enough for the Boston Aqua Farms disc to fit inside once the coral is about to out grow it. Here is a picture of the first batch popped out of the mold and I only broke one.

I found the one and only dealer for White Portland cement in our area, we picked up a sack and when I get the mixture right I will start using it. I had a set back with the second and third batch of disks. Second batch I used only large coral sand and they came out crumbly, I could only save about half of the batch. As for the third batch, they were very hard to get out the mold since I changed the mixture, but I love the texture of the surface. I cut the side of the mold at a 10 or 15 degree angle to help in releasing and used a release agent and the next batch came out the mold with ease. Please any suggestions or comments? I love the diy learning process.

Very nice!! Will you be selling these? I would like to buy some in the near future. these will be great fo ralot of different types of LPS and encrusting montis.

For enctusting monti's you should take the wet material as it's drying and etch in a CROSS or "X" so the disk will break where you want it to Kinda like a pie

Yes I would like to try selling some in the near future. Once I get to that stage I will let you know. I am checking to see how long they take to cure. You can only load so many in a toilet tank. Trying to supplement the hobby since the wife is now retired.

I hear you on supplement. This hobby isn't the cheapest but then again what is?:lol:

None, but where can you also get the satisfaction of telling someone that you grew that coral from a frag the size of your pinky finger nail. Both my wife and I have enjoyed this hobby for 25 plus years.
