So, I have a 30g tank with a 10g sump. I am planning for an upgrade to a 75 w/ ~30g sump in 8 months or so. I would like to purchase a EuroReef RS100 now, as an initial step in my upgrade.

I've read that oversized skimmers are generally ok, but if a skimmer is vastly oversized it loses efficiency, ie not being able to maintain a foam head. Would the RS100 work at all in my current tank? Would it keep the tank clean?

I am also considering the RS80, but I think the RS100 would work better for the 75g later on. Any thoughts?

I don't see why you won't be fine using it for now on the smaller tank. IMO waste is waste no matter what size the tank. Just my 2 cents:)

i used to run an rs80 on a 10g w/ a 10g sump, had no problems collecting goo out of my system:p
that skimmer will be fine on a 30g. thats the one w/ a 6 " body and a sedra 3500? or does it have a gen x 2400?....either way it will be perfect

Wow, thats a relief :)

I need a new skimmer now, and would rather not have to buy yet another in a few months. Thanks to all for your input, and gman0526, my fish thank you too :D

I think both the rs80 and the rs100 use a sedra 3500.

My next worry is sump space. I'm hoping euroreefs footprint specifications are accurate, as my sump has an inside width of 9.5 inches. That should be ok for the RS80 at 9" or RS100 at 8.5"

Nothing wrong with feeding a lot as long as the flow and the skimmer are appropiate. :D Tell your fish that now they have to grow and be healthy or else....

And you're doing things the right way, thinking ahead. That's IMO the worst mistake we do when we start in the hobby we start cutting corners and not planning ahead. Good luck with your new set up and don't forget to post pics when you get the new skimmer, we love to see when other people spend hard earned money :D

Of course, in my excitement most of my pictures were out of focus, and I completely ditched my plans to wash it out first in a vinegar bath.

Oh, well. An extended break-in period never hurt anything.
