well every one says "be careful with ozone" well they are right i never found that out till i got this 1000mg/hr unit that is capable of causing trouble and i mean trouble . it all started when the pump that recirculates water through my skimmer failed this allowed the water level in the skimmer to drop just enough for the orp probe to lose contact with the water this caused a terrible chain of events . hours later i noticed the pump was not pumping so i got it going again but didnt notice that the orp in the skimmer had rissen to over700mv wow thats high this was due to the controler not reading proper ozone levels and notshutting off so by the time i realized what had happened 10 minutes or less the 700mv water that was probably bromide had pumped enough water into the system to kill all my cromis damsels and inflickt pain on all my other fishes i then literally was throwing hand fulls of carbon in the sump to neutralize the bromide it worked within an hour parameters seemed to stabalize and the remaining fish slowly got better system has bounced back and i have learned a valuable lesson dont over ozonate

wow...yet another reason for those using or considering using ozone to approach it with care and caution! Perhaps one of the more ozone experienced members can weigh in here and tell us how this could have possibly been avoided....

I am curious overgrown that seems like a lot 1000mg/hr The biggest I've seen was 200 so That makes me wonder how big your tank is ?

plack - I think its around 800 gallons with another 400 to be added??

overgrown - Sorry about the losses, bu thanks for posting this up. I'm glad you were able to get it under control before you had more losses.

Nikki,

plack - I think its around 800 gallons with another 400 to be added??

That is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much ozone 1000 mg if he has it that high. For 1200 gals if that is net gal, then .3 - .5 x 1200 = 360 mg (Low) - 600 mg(high)

Over

700mv

What was the tank ORP ? 700 mV water = dead animals

You were lucky but did a great job at correcting the problem quickly and thinkin' :)

more ozone problems

well this morning i went out to check systems everthing ok but... happened to look at the ozone generator ,no lights no current to the unit ,found a blown fuse but after looking closer i realized the curcuit board had arced onto the housing and shorted out .ozone is down. i guess i have to send it back to rk2,in my opinion the its a bad design the board should not be that close to the housing. the arc was caused by moisture created by the cooling fan never a dull moment

1ooomg is the unit size not how high it was set. it is a comercial unit by rk2 and i know how much to use some times the controller gets improper readings like when the skimmer feed pump is offline
