Well, it looks like my only loss from the wind storm was my pc.
I really should buy a new one, but just don't have the funds.
So I guess getting it fixed is my only option right now.
Any pc software/hardware techs here want to do some work for frags.
I could do a couple of my PPE's and and maybe some eagle eyes or some pink/purple zoanthids I just got.
If that doesn't do it for you I may have some green sinularia frags.

Using my wifes old pc just isn't going to work for me, for much longer.

Yeah,
I was being cocky and was using it when everything went out.
Now that I have power back, the pc is stuck in a continual reboot mode.
It's pretty old, by pc standards. About 4 years.

I need someone local to me to help me,,, before I call Dell.

Hopefully as more people get power back, someone that knows how to fix computers will see this and respond.

I really don't want to have to call Dell.

Yeah, I'm with Bob. I'd love to help you but, I'm guessing "Olympia" doesn't mean you live out back, behind the "olympia diner" down the road from my house. :(

I build computers for friends and family from parts I buy at a place online. I'm not sure how ambitious you are but if you let me know what you want, I'd be able to point you in the right direction as far as what parts to buy. Once you get them, (IMO) it's more like a legos then rocket science. $200-300 should be all you need.

Thanks, I appreciate the offer.
But part of what I'm hoping for will involve data recovery from the old hard drive.
I can do a little building. I help my son-in-law put together one from pieces, but diagnostics is something I need the help with.

Find out who the maker is of harddrive. Call them, Almost all them are in colorado, They can retrieve the data and may do it for free if you pay for a new HD. Cost will be about 150.00 or so, I have done this in the past, but not sure if they still do it.

I would suspect the motherboard, memory, or the power supply first. Is there anyway you can take out your hard drive and plug it into a friends computer? If so, there may be no need for a data recovery operation. There are only two connections (data and power).

I may be able to do that with my wifes pc. The one I'm using now. But I would still need help doing that.
it's on it's last legs also.
It starts humming really badly.
In fact it sounds like my generator.

Part of the problem may be the operating system.

I'm not sure how a power fluctuation could have damaged software. I gotta hot date tonight, I'll put up some pics later tonight or tomorrow. Is your computer a laptop or a desktop?

Hey Marty,

I may be able to give it a try tomorrow. I'm pretty good at solving computer problems. PM me your address/directions and we'll give it a go.

What operating system were you running on your computer?

Vicki

It's XP Home.

One of the reasons I think it could be software is all the different error messages. Most, about different programs not loading. I think I even saw a blue screen.
Plus, it really wants to report the problems to the mother ship (microsoft). I can click on send and the message repeats 20-25 times or click on don't send same thing 20-25 times.

I thought...?

the pc is stuck in a continual reboot mode.

Well once in a while it will boot to the desktop. With the send/don't sent message. If I can get away from that, click on anything else,, file, browser, start, then it goes into reboot.
I've tried to start in safe mode, several times, seems like it will and at the last moment,, reboot.

I'm going to try again later to try safe mode/ roll back, see if that will work.

It really does sound like hardware to me. You didn't have this problem before the power blow-up right? It could be that the power-supply is not providing accurate voltages, or some motherboard components blew-up. Of course, a bad HDD could also explain this. :dunno:

Any computer shop (worth a damn) should be able to diagnosis this pretty quick, they would probably just change out components until it works.
