Hey every body I'm getting ready to set up for a 90 gallon fish only tank with a 20 gallon sump. I'm thinking about adding live sand and want to add about 50lbs of live rock to the sump and then maybe another 25 lbs of live rock in the tank, and the rest will be dead rock. I was going to use crushed coral as a substrate. Now I'm wondering where I can get bulk live rock at a discount? Has anyone had good experiences from a certain site? I know a lot of stores sell it but I would like to know if anyone has first hand experience? Also I'm pretty new to the hobby so if anyone has a different opinion on how I should set up the tank please let me know!!

IMO Live rock is way over priced. It is OK to seed your tank with 5-10 lbs.
If it were me I would watch the classified board and by dry rock for a 3rd to 4th of the price. You will get much more for your money cause you are not paying for all the water in the rock.

What peppie said! But if you were looking for live rock online, I've had good experience getting the Fiji from liveaquaria.com.

You might also want to give Rob @ Red C Aquarium in Shoreline a shout. I believe he's carrying dry rock. He has always had very nice pieces.

buy from local reefer, cook and seed it yourself. this will ensure NO PEST, NO HITCH HIKERS, and NO PHOSPHATE and other spikes from happening. I dont want to seem bitter but you just dont know where or what environment the LR came from nor what hiding inside. If i purchase LR for LFS i still cook and seed it to ensure its what i wanted.

I got all my live rock from vividaquariums.com, their best stuff is really nice. Dave the owner was great to work with. I got more rock (dry) from marcorocks.com, from ebay. They sell direct from them also. Whatever you do, don't go to liverockranch.com, I had nothing but problems and disappointment. One excuse after another. Cancelled my order after three weeks with no rock. I ordered from vivid and had it in 2 days. Fedex guy just about had a hernia carrying 50 pounds up 3 flight of stairs.
