Hi All,
I feel clueless on how to post a simple photo on this site. I uploaded a picture into the photo gallery with a lot of trouble and resized it to the point of not being able to make out details. I started with 8 mb jpeg. I can't get the "attach file" to do anything. I am just unhappy to spend an hour trying to add a simple picture to my posts.
Is it me; Am I missing the obvious? I see large pictures on the site all of the time...

Lost in Space,
Jon

It took me awhile to figure it out, too.

Here is a Windows XP PowerToy that will allow you to right click on a picture and resize it WindowsXP PowerToy

Here is another program to check out for Windows IrfanView

You can try resizing it using the above programs. On my computer (Mac) I can change the size when I export the picture. I just set the size to 400X300.

Once you upload to your gallery, if you right click on the image and open it to a new window you will get a url address for that image. Go to the post you want to add the picture to, and put the url like this: (except remove the *)

[*img]url address to image is pasted here[*/img]

you can either type the [*img] or you can click on the IMG box that appears in the "Post Reply" area.

Another way to attach a picture to your post is to click on "post reply" in a thread or if you are starting a new thread, go to Attach image, and click on Browse to find the image on your computer.

Hope this helps and doesn't confuse?

"or you can click on the IMG box that appears in the "Post Reply" area."

My "thought" on that was that the photo was linked to my C: drive. My computer isn't always on and I didn't want anyone in that section (or any section) of my computer. Not that anyone here would object to a bunch of pictures of members tanks, fish or corals. I tried the attach file or image block come to think about it. I'll retry the img button

showphoto.php

I don't know if this worked. If it did I can re upload the entire image

Jon

Well this sort of works. I would have prefered the actual picture on this post rather than a link

Close but not quite there. Once you see the picture you have to right click on it and click properties. Another dialog box will pop up with something like this:

http://www.reeffrontiers.com/photos_members/data/500/9Anemone1.jpg

that is the URL you us to paste into the IMG button. You can't do this via Quick Reply either you have to do a Post Reply.

so here is the result:

9Anemone1.jpg

You can also use the Attach Photo option if the photo has been resized downwards to the site specifications.

This is test #2 - Let's see if this comes up Picture was taken >5min ago. The fish are hamming it up.

You can't see things well in this image, but there is a second rose on the back wall in front of the yellow tang. This is where all three started out. The Stream came on about 2 seconds after the photo. The third anemone is inbetween the rock work on the left side of the photo

Olympus E-10, The picture is stored as a 800 kb jpeg. I think photoshop converts it to the 8MB or I'm confused by their numbers. I haven't tried Niki's toys yet. MS editor worked ok but limited control of picture resizing. I pull the CF or SD card out of the camera and insert it into card reader built into 3.5 floppy, then open with whatever program or just click on the icon. I could do a RAW image but that would eat the card up in 4 pictures(I haven't tried it yet). I still don't know how to use the Olympus as well as I should. I have it at most meetings/tank tours.

The tank looks great!!!!

I'm still battling some hair and macro algae issues, ran out of calcium suppliments, ran out of money to finish the Ca reactor soon, but still have tons of patience. Also had to clean the glass enough to see through the coraline algae - notice where I scraped around a snail on the lower right

Thanks for the kind words - I'll try to post more,

Jon

Thanks Cesar - I'll give it a try. Just installed it. It also says something about the file being 800 kb converted to 10 mb - don't know what it means - Current memory size
