so in my 29 gallon i had 2 maxi jet 600s, seemed decent enough but i went ahead and ordered a hydor 750gph to swap one on them out.
so it just came in the mail, i swapped one out and if i feel the flow it seems like the maxi jet actually flows better?
i see the hydor actually has a bigger head than the maxi jet but does that make it not feel as strong, but really moves more water?
so with one maxi jet at 160gph and a hydor at 750 im around 900 gph in my 29 reef ready " with lights "

Maxijets will have a narrow stream of flow so it will seem you get more flow/velocity out of the pump, but the spread isn't that great so you don't get as much coverage as a powerhead with a broader flow pattern. You don't want to blast your corals with directional flow so usually a powerhead with a broader flow pattern is suggested. When I chopped up my 24 gal aquapod, at one point I had 3 maxijet 1200's (pumping through some lockline nozzles to broaden the flow) as well as a tunze nano steam all running one time. The flow was pretty nice, but nothing beats a nice powerhead with a broad flow pattern. You get so much more coverage and nothing is blasted with directional flow. :)

I did notice that, i have some hawaiann zoas that are almost in direct line of the new powerhead but they seem to not sway tons, like they would with the other powerhead!
Thanks!
