There has been a change to the look of Instant Ocean salt, new dark purple bag and buckets.

The salt should be the same right?

We havent used a lot of the new salt, but we have sold a lot.

Anybody having fish going blind and or falling over dead for no reason ?

Input would be great , thanks .

I really don't think that a different color on the bag would mean less quality inside.
They have changed the label/size bucket a couple times over the years.

I am well aware of their changes in appearance.

It could be that they changed the make-up of the salt at the same time or our supplier got a`bad batch.

We use I.O ` and R.C. because of the consistencey .
Anybody with problems?

Ive heard rumor that there has been some IO with low Ph issues right after making it up. If reefers make up their water at least 24 hours in advance, it shouldnt be a problem. I persoally havent had any problems since Ive started using it two months ago. Unless you consider better coloration and growth in my acros to be a problem..

Finn, are you using the new label I.O. if so did you get it locally ,like from washington?
I'm glad that you are having great luck with the salt, I like it too.

Thanks for the Duane.

Finn , people that are using this salt from a local source have had problems with blindness and fish falling over dead with only a small % of new look I.O. .

I have had fish die in our shop that were 100% and then dead over night shortly after a small water change with IO.

I heard throught the grapevine that one of the large outfits was having some problems with a pallet or two. Low Ph was thought to be the issue with the make up water affecting the tanks. AFAI remember, simply rolling the bucket a bunch to assure even mixing would help.

The big outfit in town has may problems with their systems, i'm trying to see if there are any other people that have had any problems.

Rob,
Thanks for expressing your concern, especially as a vendor. A couple of questions.
Have you tested the new look IO saltwater when it is mixed up in your mixing bucket yet?
If so, what are the parameters when freshly mixed?
pH
Ca
Mg
PO4
Nitrate
Nitrite
Salinity
Temp
What are the parameters after it has sat overnight?
Is pH change something you are observing?
Have you contacted the company for a certificate of analysis for the lots in question? If so, what was their response.

Eric
PS Don't answer the question on who is the big out fit in town IMHO due to potential liabilities.

Rob,
BTW, the Bali green slimer acropora I picked up from you is doing great. I snapped the main branch off at the base and glued it to a rock. Then I glued the base of the heavily encrused plug to the back wall. Hope it grows straight of the back. Should look nice in a few months. Thanks.

I've picked up the salt from a LFS when on sale and some online vendors.

I recently got some of the new look bags from fosterandsmith.com and have not had any problems at all.

We bought some of the new look io salt, last night from the lfs to try and save our quarantine fish who arent doing too well, and we immediately mixed & added, and the fish are doing better with the new water change, which was like a 75%. we did lose the fish that had been almost gone before the WC, but everyone else is now back up & swimming around and the resp has gone done, and they're eating. So no probs here....
