I recently bought a water trough to start a propagation tank and my only concern was that the tank was black and I was wondering if anyone knew if the black plastic would heat the water too much? I was going to put egg crate on the bottom of the trough which would hopefully help to keep the tank cool. Any suggestions?

I would not be too concerned. I am not sure if having a black bottom is a problem or not. The goal would be having the egg crate completely covered in frags, how much light would actually reach the bottom?

If ya place a thin layer of sand on the bottom, you will get light reflection upwards towards the undersides of your corals, this will help. The black bottm should not cause any heat retention, or increase in temperature.
