Good evening all,

I need a little help planning out my sump for my 130. I have never done a sump before and so have no idea what size tank to use. I have an old 30 gal kicking around but it’s a taller tank and I don’t think that will do the job.

If there’s anyone that would have any ideas for me it would be helpful.

Thanks again

i have a 40 gallon turned into a 3 section sump, the biggest thing to remember is flow and lighting for the algae and to have enough algae for you tank. my tank is a 125 , my protein skimmer is in 1st compartment the algae then last section is the pump with the filter so my refuguim is actually about 2o gallons, if you need i can measurements if you need it not sure how to do pics on here yet except maybe under my albums !

So part of what I look at when we're talking about what's big enough for underneath is what your final plan is do you want to have an area for frags you need to make sure you have an area for cheito and all sorts of other different things like substrate Rock Etc you need to really concentrate on what would be enough section for when the power goes out losing suction all the safety manners that need to go on each end of the tank first and then go from there reactors Etc will be in another section a really good place to start is really YouTube and watch some of the videos that Barrier Reef and others have and melevsreef guys like that and even some goofy YouTubers themselves when I had my 125 gallon in the wall I had a 55-gallon below and that was just right with a frag tank in there as well then I had to do little to no water changes

There are several factors, such as but not really restricted to the amount in the sump, the production of the flow push and/or highest possible throughput that your flows over will manage. If you know the normal working stage in the sump you can figure out flood quantity based on the sump measurements. The challenging part can be identifying how much will strain from the display once the push is off.

Will it have confuses, or no? Baffles determines stage. No confuses, and it's any stage you choose, and can maintain with top-off.
