Can I put some small snail shells I found in the Puget Sound in my tank (they were empty of course)? I plan on soaking them in vinegar and then boiling them first. Also while roaming the beach you see lots of green sea weed can you dry this out and feed it to our fish?

Thanks,
Brian

I am not one to take advice from, but to me with all of the contaminates known to be in the sound (motor oil, and all kinds of other man refined or man made chemicals out there who knows) I am just not sure if I would trust it in my tank. I know that the corals are harvested from another ocean that probably has the same amount of human traffic I just think the sound is a little smaller when compared to say the Indian ocean or off the great barrier reef and the sound probably has comparable rate of traffic.

Hmm I didn't really think about that they are soaking in vinegar right now it fizzed for a while and now it just has a nice scum on top mmmm.

You'd take a great risk of introducing pollutants, possible pests or other "nasties" into your tank.

OK I won't put them in lol!

I could just imagine my little blue leg hermets getting one and thinking they are so much cooler than the other one's with their fancy new shell though. That was my thought any way because I have about ten of the little blue leg hermets and they were all about the same size and then one day I noticed one stole a shell from a nasarie snail and now he is way bigger than the other one's but those shells are boring looking

If there Boiled and Such there should be no Problems.Just Like Meat all Contaminants Die at a Certain Temp.

I would have to agree with baseballkid. I think that a vinegar or bleach bath, followed by a boil and then extra rinsing would make them safe. Is it worth all the effort I don't know.
