Sump size

I just realized that the small 20 gal tank that was going to use as a sump for my 60 gal tank won't fit in the stand for just 1/2", bummer! so now I have to consider getting a custom made tank or look for a standard size that would fit in the stand. Today I saw in my local pet store a 16" gal (20" x 10" x 19"). Do you think that would work or should I look for something bigger?

I'm going to put an Octopus 150 Skimmer and an external return pump with a flow around 600 gph.

First off let me say this has happened to allot of us. Now saying that maybe you can build your custon glass tank. Glass is relatively cheap and silicone is readily available. It real easy to build em here is a link on how...

http://www.garf.org/ Got to Diy page toward the bottom pick tank building.

Also this maybe a alternative for you , I feell this idea would be best for smaller area then using a tank.

either way you go you will have the size you need, it is always better then putting up with something that is not what you wanted to begin with.

Wow, the idea of building my own sump never crossed my mind but seriously it doesn't seem to be that hard. Since now I'm considering different options, I would like to know what measurements would be ideal for my space. I wouldn't want the sump to be bigger than 26" x 11.5" but it can be as tall as I want to. I'm going to put a Octopus 150 Skimmer which I already have, its foot print is 10" x 9".

Any suggestions?

Ended up getting a custom made tank to use as a sump with a hole drilled to use an external pump for real cheap. I still have to add the baffles by myself though.

Bummer on the 1/2 inch. That sucks! Atleast you got a custom built one. That always works out better anyways:)
