Purple Growth on Christmas Favia

Any ideas what this is? I have seen it come and go before but my wife says it just inflates and deflates.
There are also some barnacles in between the favia in case that helps out.

Can you blow it off or is it matting. Could be a sponge.

I haven't touched it yet I didn't want to do anything until I kinda got an idea of what it might be before pulling it off the coral.

If it is smothering the coral, I would remove as much of it as possible. I would dip the coral to in coral Rx or melafix. It could be a bacterial growth.

I just brushed it off and it was stuck at the very bottom center of it but wasn't very hard at all to get off. I'll dip it to make sure that it's ok.
