Question about canopy height

I am getting ready to build a new canopy for my 100 gallon. Currently have a short one for VHO's. Gonna put in MH's how much clearance do I need between the tank top and canopy bottom? Will be putting in two 250's with reflectors.

i just had the exact same question a few weeks ago..i too switched from VHO to MH...i was told everything from 6-12", i think..the bulb needs to be high enough that splashing water won't touch it and cause it to burst..mine is going to end up being about 7-10" off the water...here is my thread...

Mine is 9" off the water with a splash shield. I also run 250w mh

I've done 9 inches (I think) as well as 12 inches. Just make sure you vent it
