Can someone tell me if you can safety place clams in a tank that has peppermint shrimp in it and also hermit crabs. My LFS says it is ok but sometimes I think they may just want the sales so I try to check first if I am not sure. I don't want them to become a food for some other things in the tank.

should be fine, the only issue i see is if the clam is dying, the shrimp and crab will sense this and start to munch.
Hermit crabs are always opportunistic feeders. However, you should be just fine. There's hundreds of tanks with clams, that also have Peppermint Shrimp and Hermit crabs, with no problems at all.
